AUDUBON, Pa. (December 29, 2010) – Globus Medical, Inc., the largest privately held spinal implant manufacturer in the world, today announced that 2,000 patients have been treated with its TRANSITION® Stabilization System. TRANSITION®, a semi-rigid system for lumbar fusion, incorporates Globus’ patented SoftStop™ Technology and provides advanced lumbar stabilization. The TRANSITION® System includes Hydroxyapatite-coated, multi-axial pedicle screws, PET cords, and PCU spacers.
TRANSITION®’s SoftStop Technology enables the implant to mimic the spine’s natural biomechanics. When used in conjunction with interbody fusion, TRANSITION® provides more physiologic and uniform load sharing than traditional titanium or PEEK rods. The TRANSITION® system can also be configured with an integrated metallic rod to provide a progression of segmental stiffness depending on the amount of degeneration of each spinal segment.
